Super Easy Aerial Yoga

Have you thought aerial yoga looks like fun, but also thought you’re not strong enough to flexible enough or brave enough or anything else enough? Then this is the class for you!

Prerequisite: ability to sit into a swaying soft fabric - if you can sit onto a swing at the playground or a hammock, you’ll be fine.

Appropriate clothes: leggings (no zippers, Velcro, snaps, buttons) - capri or full length (no shorts!), and a t-shirt or other shirt that covers your entire torso and has at least short sleeves. Socks are not necessary but can be nice for warmth at the start and end - you’ll want to remove socks for many things in the middle though. Dressing like this will let you avoid the dreaded fabric burns that happen when our bare skin rubs against the fabric and also protects the fabric. You will need to remove dangly earrings, rings, watches, etc (anything that might snag on the fabric)

This class prioritizes finding joy in movement, being in the air, and being accessible to everyone, over being a strict yoga class. Everyone is always encouraged to ask for help, clarification, alternatives/options, or another demo. And as with all of our classes, everyone is encouraged to show up as their authentic selves 🏳️‍🌈

Everything we do in this class will have options so you can feel comfortable picking your own adventure. Each week, and as you gain comfort and strength, you can pick the options that feel right for you.

Following is a general description of how the class will flow:
We will start laying in the cozy cocoon of the sling (fabric), then a gentle warmup while still laying in the fabric. Next we will go through a series of aerial yoga shapes, most of which are just floor yoga shapes supported by the fabric! As your comfort, strength, and interest allow, we will explore some options for inversions - these will always be optional, with alternative variations or completely different options if you aren’t feeling the inversion that day or ever! We will also stand up in the fabric (with the fabric at a lower height) to start exploring some supported standing shapes. We will then return to the open fabric for a gentle cool down, followed by savasana (ending quiet time) laying in the cocoon. The ending savasana will always have the option of being on the floor or seated.

Please let us know if you have any physical or health limitations, especially if going upside down, or head lower than heart, is something you need to avoid.
